Promote your Team Website to Find Sponsors and Earn Dollars

Did you know that sports sites are among the most popular sites on the Internet?  Check the site stats for some of the biggest sites and you will see excellent rankings.  You can see site stats for the websites you visit by downloading the Alexa Toolbar at www.alexa.com.  How can you benefit from your website so you can build your fan base and perhaps even earn additional money for your team?

  1. Keep it current

If you race every weekend, you should have someone post your results right away in headlines on the site.  If you gain a new sponsor, you want that info on your website immediately with links to your new sponsor.  A “Press Release” section is also helpful for media visitors.  The main point is that if you do not keep the site current, when people log on to your site to get the latest, they will not come back if it is not recently updated.  If they see the last entry was several weeks ago and they know you’ve been racing, they won’t soon come back and may lose interest.  You owe it to your sponsors to take care of your fans.

  1. Promote it
    1. Automatic

Automatic submission is done by web promoters using submission software that sends information about your website to hundreds of search engines in a matter of minutes.  You can purchase such software if you need to promote many pages or you can contract with a web submission service for a small fee.

    1. Manual

Manual submission to the top search engines takes more time but because they page is provided by the search engine they are more likely to be listed faster.  You can also bid on keywords with some of them and get better rankings by paying for placement.  This last is called “Pay per Click.”  To learn about NCMC’s website promotion services, visit http://www.insmkt.com/gethits.htm.

    1. Linking Strategies

Search engines like Google.com consider higher rankings for websites that are linked to by other relevant sites.  You can spend lots of time contacting these sites asking for reciprocal links or you can hire someone to do it for you.  It is worth the process but eventually, Google will look askance at it because there are some many people doing it that often times it is no longer as much of an indication of site popularity.

    1. Racing Search Engines

There are a number of search engines dedicated exclusively to racing and/or motorsports.  It would be helpful to get into these search engines so that those people who are interested in the sport can more easily find you.

    1. Banner Advertising Services

A Google search can help you find sites that offer banner advertising trades where you can enable other sites to advertise on your site in return for your banners being shown on their.

3. Look for residual income

    1. Sell advertising

If you have a lot of traffic on your site, you may want to consider selling banner advertising.  You may want to check with other sites that have similar traffic and ask what they charge for advertising and the types of advertising they sell.  Have your web designer put up some pages describing your advertising opportunities and some order forms and you’re in business.

    1. Affiliate Accounts

Many companies offer affiliate accounts that you can sign up for.  If you feel that a particular type of product is suitable for your website, you can place affiliate links on your site to the other company.  Each link is coded so that if there is an order from your link, you can earn a commission.

4. Put your Sponsorship Proposal on your Website

h. Why shouldn’t your fans be potential sponsors?  Give them an opportunity to learn what it takes to support their favorite team by placing your sponsorship proposal on your site.  Make sure you use appropriate keywords in the content and description of the page (META tag) in order to ensure the search engines will find it.  You may want to consider a smaller program that lets fans contribute small amounts to the team and get a signature or small logo on the car/s.
