How to do Business
No
matter what kind of business you are, you cannot succeed without good
relationships and dedicated customers Success comes through honoring a few
time-tested principles. They apply, not only to business activities but to our
private lives as well:
·
There is no
such thing as an “image” of honesty. There is only honesty. Yet today, honesty
is like a jewel, rare and valuable. It cannot be synthesized by image managers
and spinners. Do everything with truth, full disclosure and trust in the
honesty and judgment of others. Always tell the truth, the whole truth and
nothing but the truth.
·
If you commit
to someone that you will do something, that commitment must be a first
priority. Don’t rest until that commitment is fulfilled.
·
It takes only
one act of deceit or dishonesty to ruin you. If not in the minds of others,
then in your own. If you take the path of deceit, the most devastating defeat
is that you know it.
·
Always do more
than asked. Always look to benefit your associates and customers in ways that
are outside of product features and business agreements. Give value, surely,
but give more than expected and you will always do well. Return all phone
calls, answer emails, keep appointments, be early rather than late and spend a
little extra time each day focusing and attending to your business associates.
·
Always
respect and keep to yourself anything that is told to you in confidence. Share
only information that you have a right to share and especially share information
that benefits your associates.
·
Find partners
anywhere and everywhere you can. And above all think of helping them as you
would help yourself. Develop as wide a network of partners as you can and make
it a mutual admiration society. Make sure that others gain in their
relationships with you and you will gain also.
·
Always put
your associates to work on your behalf. Let them know what you need, what you
seek and what will benefit you. And know the same about them. Find a way to
help yourself by giving them strategic knowledge that they can use to help
themselves and you as well. Ask for what you want and others will try to help
you get it.
·
Friendliness,
politeness and respect are never too much to give to anyone. There is nothing
like a handshake, a smile, a face-to-face meeting and an honest open discussion
engaged in with respect for the rights, feelings and opinions of others.
