I'm calling for accuracy in advertising among the mainstream media. I believe that the role of the media should be to present the facts of any story without ideological or political distortion. The media must do its job in an objective and non-partisan way. For instance, if they are going to create propaganda, which is political lies, they should not be called the media but ABC Propaganda Network, for example. If they are going to favor a particular candidate, they should call themselves the Democratic Party Network. If they are going to promote the liberal political agenda, they should call themselves the Socialist Policy Network. They should not call themselves the media unless they are going to tell the truth without a political or ideological bent.
Seriously, there is a clear bias in the mainstream media and they are feeling the pain of losing viewership due to it. It is not that the public has swung to the right. It is that the public is more educated and they are demanding a more balanced reporting so they go to Fox News or talk radio. The public can tell a slanted story when they see one.
The liberals' desire to tell the American public what to think comes from having a majority of the media come from one basic point of view; socialist. That is the fault of the universities that also come from one point of view and there you have political correctness interfering with free speech and dissent - yes the liberal universities, the bastions of dissent in the 60s, no longer tolerate dissent - from liberal points of view. In fact, the demand for fair and balanced information is why the talk show radio environment is so strongly conservative - in fact, much of the reporting that is coming from conservatives, because it is intended to balance against the left and their monopoly, is actually better reporting - they give a perspective on the facts that the mainstream media ignores and as a consequence they have an incredible audience - even lots of liberals listen and appreciate the "facts" they are getting.
If we were to change the status of the public airwaves to the same status as the cable industry this country would come around to a new objectivity because the media outlets would have to compete as the best providers of information and you'd see less propaganda. This election is the last gasp of the liberals and when they lose, things will change drastically. The likes of Michael Moore will disappear because there won't be a market for deception and propaganda. At least when he speaks he will be known for what he is - a propagandist. There will be a new truth and honesty and we can finally get about the business of defeating the far right conservatives in their move toward theocracy. Posted 7/24/04
