Mercator, Gerardus
Atlas sive Cosmographicae Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi et
Fabricati Figura
(Atlas, or Cosmographic Meditations on the Fabric of the
World and the Figure of the Fabrick’d)
Duisburg, 1595 - Latin

Gerardus Mercator can be called the first
scientific cartographer, and his monumental Atlas marked
a revolution in the field. With this volume, a collection of
maps was linked for the first time with the figure of Atlas from
Greek mythology. A beautiful hand-colored copy is reproduced in
this Octavo Edition, with the first ever English translation,
and commentary by Robert W. Karrow, Jr.
